System Engineering is a general methodological approach that includes all the appropriate activities to design, develop and verify a system providing a cost-effective and efficient solution to the needs of a customer while satisfying all the stakeholders.

More precisely, System Engineering can be defined as:

• A cooperative and interdisciplinary problem-solving process,

• Based on knowledge, methods and techniques from science and

experience,

• Implemented to define, evolve and verify the definition of a system

(organized set of hardware, software, human skills and interacting

processes)

• Providing a solution to an identified operational need according to

measurable efficiency criteria,

• That satisfies the expectations and constraints of all its

stakeholders and is acceptable to the environment,

• Seeks to balance and optimize in all aspects the overall economy of

the solution over the entire life cycle of the system.
